ST. LOUIS, Mo. — The 2020 St. Louis Intercollegiate Athletic Conference Spring All-Academic Team was released on Friday, and six Eureka College athletes were selected.
Senior Erin Smith (Dunlap, Ill./Dunlap), junior Klaire Wilmot (Peru, Ill./La Salle-Peru) and sophomores Raelyn Payne (Lexington, Ill./Lexington) and Faith Bachtold (Fairbury, Ill./Prairie Central) all received honors for the softball team, while senior Kyle Cashdollar (Morton, Ill./Morton) and junior Gregory Cluskey (East Peoria, Ill./Metamora) received honors for the baseball team.
To be eligible a player must hold a cumulative GPA of 3.5 or above, at least a sophomore or above in academic standing, and have spent one full season at their institution.
Smith, a pitcher and business and accounting double major, is a first-time SLIAC All-Academic honoree. She recorded a .55 ERA in 25 1/3 innings during the Red Devils' spring break trip this year. Wilmot received All-Academic honors for the second straight year. An elementary education major, she contributed four hits, scored six runs and produced three RBIs in nine games as an infielder and outfielder this spring.
Payne and Bachtold both received All-Academic honors in their first year eligible. Payne, an elementary education major and shortstop, batted .379 with 11 hits, 10 runs scored, seven RBIs and two stolen bases in 10 games this spring. Bachtold, an elementary education and outfielder, started the season batting .308 with eight hits, 10 runs scored, four walks and two stolen bases.
Cashdollar, a fifth-year senior pitcher, was able to become a rare four-time All-Academic honoree honoree. In six pitching appearances, the right-handed reliever from Morton only allowed three hits and two unearned runs while recording a 0.00 ERA.
Cluskey, a biology and environmental science double major, was named All-Academic for the second straight year. This spring, he limited opponents to six earned runs in three starts over 14 innings.
