EUREKA, Ill. -- Eureka College junior Ray Vogel (Bartonville, Ill./Limestone H.S.) hit his seventh home run of the season, but Webster won the first two contests of a three-game St. Louis Intercollegiate Athletic Conference West Division series on Saturday, defeating the Red Devils 17-0 in game one and winning the nightcap, 13-2.
Webster scored nine times in the first inning to put the opener away. The Red Devils were limited to three hits for the game.
The Gorloks used another big first inning in game two, building a 7-0 lead. Vogel's home run came in the sixth inning. He finished the contest 2-for-3. Junior shortstop Ethan Gates (Batavia, Ill./Batavia H.S./Waubonsee) added a double.
The Red Devils and Gorloks will wrap up their three-game series Monday at 11 a.m.
