MOUNT PLEASANT, Iowa – Despite the Eureka men's soccer team's improved play in the second half, St. Louis Intercollegiate Athletic Conference-leading Iowa Wesleyan asserted their dominance and proved too much to overcome as the Red Devils fell 8-0.

The Tigers drew first blood early on in the sixth minute of action as Cesar Arroyo received the ball at the top of the box and with room to shoot, scorched the side netting of the goal from about 20 yards out.

Not much later in the 10th minute, it was Carlos Mateo Moreno who was able to send a cross into the box for the Tigers and Jaime Rabadan collected the bouncing ball and finished a shot just under the cross bar to make it 2-0.

Iowa Wesleyan got on the scoresheet again in the 21st minute of play this time it was Hugo Bonilla who converted on a simple pass in from four yards away, capitalizing on a previously deflected shot.

Then, in the 26th minute, Carlos Mateo Moreno was able to get a goal of his own as he buried a shot that was crossed in from the right flank by Xavier Lozada to make the score 4-0.

Not even another minute went by before the Tigers were hungry for more as Favio Govea Silva found himself open at the top of the 18-yard box, and with nobody stepping to him, he was able to slot home a shot into the lower corner to put the Tigers up 5-0.

The Tigers put away three more goals from there. Xavier Lozada would go on to score in the 27th,  Hugo Bonilla added second goal in the 28th, and finally, Creighten Chambers finished it off with one in the 35th minute.

The Red Devils completed a second-half shut out in the second 45.

In the 63rd minute, the Red Devils nearly got on the scoresheet themselves, as a cross from Ignacio Gutierrez found the head of Sam Lin, who was able to direct it but barely missed the far-post corner of the net as the ball went just wide.

On Saturday, the Red Devils will vie for first SLIAC league win when they face off against conference rival Blackburn on Saturday at 1:00pm.
