EUREKA — On Friday at 3:30 p.m., Eureka (27-6) will take on Wisconsin-Whitewater (26-12) in the Red Devils’ second NCAA Tournament appearance in program history and first since 2002. It’s the crown jewel in a treasure trove of accomplishments for this group this season.
EUREKA — One day after capturing its first St. Louis Intercollegiate Athletic Conference Tournament title, the Eureka softball team reconvened to learn who and where the Red Devils would be playing next. EC (27-6) will open the 2019 NCAA Division III Softball Championship against Wisconsin-Whitewater (26-12) on Friday at Van Steenderen Softball Complex.
FULTON, Mo. – The Eureka softball team had two chances to win the St. Louis Intercollegiate Athletic Conference Tournament on Sunday, but the squad only needed one. The Red Devils racked up 14 hits, crushed three home runs and overpowered Spalding 11-3 in six innings to claim their first SLIAC Tournament title and second NCAA Tournament berth in program history.
FULTON, Mo. – The St. Louis Intercollegiate Athletic Conference Tournament is winding down, and the Eureka softball team is right where it wants to be. With a Morgan Ledbetter (Hanna City, Ill./Elmwood) three-run bomb, an Erin Smith (Dunlap, Ill./Dunlap) gem and steady production from the bottom of the order, the Red Devils dispatched Greenville 9-0 in five innings on Saturday afternoon at Blue Jay Field.
FULTON, Mo. – On Saturday, Eureka College junior Sydney Shubert (Canton, Ill./Canton) became the first Red Devil to be named the St. Louis Intercollegiate Athletic Conference Softball Player of the Year. After capturing its first SLIAC title in program history last weekend, Eureka received its heaviest haul of All-SLIAC honors and awards in its 13-year membership in the league, starting at the top.
With a 2-1 victory over Spalding, the Red Devils clinched a spot in the St. Louis Intercollegiate Athletic Conference Tournament. Then, with a 7-3 win in Game 2, they seized the SLIAC conference crown for the first time in Eureka’s 13-year membership.
ELSAH, Ill. – The Eureka softball team entered Friday night knowing it couldn't slip up. To keep pace in the SLIAC playoff race, the Red Devils had to take both games, and they did exactly that, rolling to a 14-4, 19-2 sweep over Principia on the road.
Morgan Ledbetter is not the only one in EC’s lineup knocking long balls and putting up big numbers at the plate this season. The Red Devils, you see, are mashing, often with power and always with purpose. And they’re having a lot of fun doing it.
EUREKA — Morgan Ledbetter tied EC assistant coach Kelli Dunne’s single-season program home run record with what ended up being a game-winning two-run blast in the sixth inning of Game 1 against Lincoln on Tuesday.
Then, in Game 2, she broke it, and the Red Devils swept their way to history.
EUREKA – One winning streak came to an end and another may have begun for the Eureka softball team on Wednesday. After Iowa Wesleyan got the edge in a 1-0 opener, the Red Devils answered with a 15-1 rout to preserve a St. Louis Intercollegiate Athletic Conference split at Sweitzer Field.
ST. LOUIS, Mo. – It’s been a productive week for Eureka softball. After racking up six straight non-conference wins, the Red Devils scored a road sweep over St. Louis Intercollegiate Athletic Conference foe Webster on Saturday to improve to 16-4 and 8-2 in league play.
EUREKA — The Eureka softball team picked up a pair of non-conference wins over Knox on Tuesday, notching its sixth victory in its last eight games. With the sun shining down on Sweitzer Field, the Red Devils put the eight-run rule into effect in both an 11-3 opener and a 12-2 Game 2.
EUREKA – For the first time this season, Eureka College softball has claimed both of the St. Louis Intercollegiate Athletic Conference weekly honors. Junior Morgan Ledbetter (Hanna City, Ill./Elmwood/Culver Stockton) is the SLIAC Hitter of the Week and junior Erin Smith (Dunlap, Ill./Dunlap) is the SLIAC Pitcher of the Week. Both are first-time honorees.
EUREKA — After a pair of tough splits this week, the Eureka softball team got the brooms back out on Sunday.
The Red Devils bested Rose-Hulman 7-1 and 13-2 (five innings) at Sweitzer Field, notching their fourth sweep in seven tries this season.
EUREKA – Saturday continued this week’s pattern of close and captivating softball games at Sweitzer Field.
And, just like with Wednesday’s pair of showdowns with Fontbonne, Eureka ended up with a win and a loss.
EUREKA — There was no lack of drama or tension at Sweitzer Field on Wednesday afternoon. With Fontbonne in town, the Eureka softball team battled to a split so wild that the games had to be decided by an extra inning and a walk-off wild pitch, respectively.
EUREKA — Just like that, the Eureka softball team has won six straight games. The Red Devils teed off against MacMurray in a 13-0 series opener on Wednesday afternoon at Palmer Field, and edged the Highlanders in an 8-7 comeback victory in Game 2.
EUREKA — Three days after taking two from Blackburn in its first home doubleheader of the 2019 campaign, Eureka returned to Sweitzer Field and swept Rockford.The Red Devils tallied a pair of run-rule wins on Tuesday, besting Rockford 9-1 and 11-3 to improve to 4-2 on the year.
EUREKA — With a sweep over St. Louis Intercollegiate Athletic Conference foe Blackburn on Saturday at Sweitzer Field, the Eureka softball team extended a pair of encouraging streaks.
It marked the Red Devils’ first straight year of notching a sweep in its home-opener, and their third straight year of scoring a sweep in its first SLIAC series.
