Eureka Women’s Basketball Welcomes Three Newcomers For 2017-18

EUREKA, Ill. – First-year Eureka College women's basketball head coach Amos Arbogast has announced Wednesday three new additions to the program for the 2017-18 season. The Red Devils will welcome junior college transfer Sabrina Clay (Galesburg, Ill./Galesburg H.S./Carl Sandburg), as well as freshmen Jessi Benson (Clinton, Ill./Sangamon Valley H.S.) and Abby Hahn (Kinmundy, Ill./South Central H.S.).

Clay comes to EC after a two-year career at NJCAA Carl Sandburg in which she was an NJCAA Division II All-Region IV selection and a two-time All-Arrowhead Conference choice. The 5-10 forward led the Chargers to consecutive league titles in 2015-16 and again in 2016-17. She made 53 appearances over two seasons, averaging 10.0 points, 6.4 rebounds and shooting 45 percent from the floor as a sophomore. As a freshman, she averaged 9.6 points and 6.0 boards per contest.

Prior to her junior college career, Clay was an All-Western Big 6 Conference selection at Galesburg, leading the Silver Streaks to 27 victories and an IHSA 3A regional crown as a senior in 2014-15. She averaged 15 points and 10 rebounds per contest.

Benson is a 5-3 guard that played at Clinton Community High School before playing for the Tri-City/Sangamon Valley co-op as a senior. She helped the Lady Maroons to a Central Illinois Conference title as a freshman in 2013-14 before enjoying a decorated season with TCSV in 2016-17. Benson helped the Tornadoes to a 24-2 record, an MSM Conference crown and an IHSA 2A regional title.

Hahn was a three-time All-National Trail Conference pick at Farina South Central, including a First Team selection as a senior in 2016-17. She was also a three-time All-Area choice between The Effingham Daily News and the Dectaur Herald & Review and received All-State Special Mention as a sophomore in 2014-15. Additionally, the 5-6 guard was a three-time selection for the All-Dieterich Holiday and NTC Tournament Teams and ultimately finished her prep career as South Central's all-time leading scorer with 1,423 points.

"We couldn't be happier to have Sabrina, Jessi, and Abby join our basketball program," Arbogast said. "They are all highly accomplished student-athletes that we expect to fit in right away as we work to continue to build upon our team's success."

Clay, Benson and Hahn will join all nine returning letterwinners from last season when the defending St. Louis Intercollegiate Athletic Conference champion Red Devils open the 2017-18 campaign on Wednesday, Nov. 15 at Knox at 5:30 p.m. in Galesburg, Ill.
