EUREKA – The Eureka College volleyball team hosted a non-conference match up against Knox on Tuesday night. The match ended in a 25-21, 12-25, 25-21, 25-20 victory for Knox in a very entertaining matchup. Leading the Red Devils, Lexi Dooley (Sutter, Ill./Warsaw H.S.) had a team-leading 16 kills and 36 total attacks with 18 digs.
After falling behind by five in game one, the Red Devils battled back late in the set to eventually bring the game within one point but could not break even. Eventually the Red Devils would drop the set by four points, 25-21
Early in set two, the action continued to be back-and-forth until the Red Devils eventually went on an impressive run. After withstanding a four-point rally by the Prairie Fire, the Red Devils would eventually take the set 25-12.
After a seesaw third set, Eureka led as late as 18-17 after a Caitlin Miller (Washington, Ill./Washington H.S.) kill, but Knox closed out the set with a 25-21 win.
In the fourth and final set, the Red Devils could not seem to gain momentum early. EC battled within two points (20-18) before eventually dropping the final set, 25-20.
Eureka will resume St. Louis Intercollegiate Athletic Conference play this Thursday in a 7 p.m. start at Iowa Wesleyan. The Red Devils are on the road until Oct. 3 when they return home to the Regan Athletic Complex for a conference game against Blackburn at 7 p.m.
