EUREKA — The Eureka volleyball team couldn't slow down Webster for very long on Thursday.
The Gorloks frequently scored in bunches en route to a St. Louis Intercollegiate Athletic Conference sweep in the Red Devils' homecoming match at Christine Bonati Bollwinkle Arena.
Webster won it, 25-13, 25-20, 25-12.
The visitors hit .316 while racking up 46 kills. Three Gorloks reached double digits in kills. Freshman Lauren Borik led the way with 13, followed by Sarah Jacobs (12) and Jordan Price (11).
Emma Larson tallied a match-high 29 kills, Kristen Farrah and Jordan Price came up with 17 and 16 digs, respectively. Price also posted five crucial aces.
In the first set, the two sides split the first six points, then Webster took over with a 12-0 run. After an EC attacking error gave Webster the ball, Price put together back-to-back aces, and the run continued from there. The closest EC got the rest of the way was within eight points.
The Red Devils kept it competitive in the second set, tying the match at 14-14 with a 5-1 run. However, after an EC passing error, Price stepped to the service line and the Gorloks seized control once again. This time, Webster scored five straight, and EC couldn't catch up. The Red Devils did hit a team-best .162 in the second set, though.
The home team couldn't keep it going in the final set, however, as the Gorloks jumped out to a 15-7 lead and cruised to the finish line.
On Friday, Eureka (5-18, 2-10) will turn around and take on SLIAC leader Greenville (15-7, 10-1) for the second time this season at Greenville at 7 p.m.
