Men’s Basketball Preview: Eureka Carries Win Streak into Road Test at Lyon
BATESVILLE, Ark. – Eureka takes its two-game winning streak on the road Thursday night for a key SLIAC contest at Lyon. The Red Devils enter at 5-15 overall and 4-7 in conference play, currently tied with Blackburn for the sixth and final conference tournament spot. Lyon sits near the top of the standings at 13-6 overall and 8-3 in league play, though the Scots have dropped two of their last three games. This will be the second meeting of the season after Lyon outlasted Eureka 84-79 in overtime on Jan. 10.

FIRST MEETING BREAKDOWN:
The first matchup between these teams was one of Eureka's grittiest efforts of the season. The Red Devils trailed by 14 in the second half before mounting a furious comeback, using a 14-0 run to erase the deficit and eventually force overtime. Jaxson Provost poured in 31 points, and key defensive plays in the final minute gave Eureka chances to win in regulation. Lyon, however, executed at the free throw line in overtime and sealed the 84-79 victory.
LAST TIME OUT:
Eureka showed composure down the stretch in its most recent outing, escaping Westminster with a 71-69 road win. The game featured multiple momentum swings before Andrew Coker delivered in the closing seconds, attacking the rim and sinking two clutch free throws that proved to be the difference. Jaxson Provost paced the offense with 22 points, while Coker added 18 points and nine rebounds. The Red Devils defended several good Westminster looks in the final moments to secure their second straight conference victory, continuing a trend of strong performances in close games this season.
SCOUTING THE SCOTS:
Lyon is coming off a 77-69 loss at Webster on Tuesday. The Scots trailed by 17 at halftime and spent the second half chipping away at the deficit. Trevon Taylor led the scoring effort with 24 points, and Stephen Reed filled the stat sheet with 10 rebounds and six assists. Lyon cut the margin to six late, but early turnovers and defensive lapses proved costly.
PLAYERS TO WATCH:
Jaxson Provost continues to be the focal point of Eureka's offense, averaging 17.9 points per game while leading the team in made three-pointers and steals. Andrew Coker has provided interior toughness and rebounding, coming off a strong all-around performance last weekend, while Ben Carter contributes across the board as the team's leader in rebounds and assists.
For Lyon, Trevon Taylor anchors the attack, leading the Scots in both scoring and rebounding. Stephen Reed directs the offense and creates defensive pressure, and Kenneth Brown has been an efficient interior presence, shooting at a high percentage from the field.
