EUREKA, Ill. – Three second half goals lifted the Eureka men's soccer team to a 3-0 win over Concordia Chicago on Saturday afternoon at McKinzie Field. The Red Devils (3-3-0) secured their first-ever victory over the Cougars (1-4-1), powered by a pair of goals from freshman Michael Kondilis.
Eureka came out hunting an early goal, with Landon Porch (Metamora, Ill./Metamora) managing three shots in the first 10 minutes. Michael Kondilis (Chicago, Ill./Maine South) added multiple early attempts, but the Red Devils couldn't break through in the first half. In net, Xavier Brisbon (Oswego, Ill./Oswego East) came up big in the 21st minute, denying a close-range shot from Concordia's Justin Ocampo to keep the match scoreless. Aldo Mora-Lovera (Lisle, Ill./Lisle) registered a few chances for the Red Devils late in the half but was unable to find the back of the net, and the teams entered halftime tied 0-0.
The Red Devils wasted little time after the break. In the 50th minute, Porch connected with Kondilis, who calmly tucked a shot away for his first collegiate goal to give Eureka a 1-0 lead. The Red Devils kept the pressure on, and in the 84th minute, Porch added a goal of his own, weaving through a hanful of Concordia defenders before slotting it past the keeper to double the advantage. Kondilis sealed the win in the 89th minute with an incredible strike from outside the box, assisted by Raphael Mungu (Bloomington, Ill./Normal Community), completing his brace and capping off a dominant second half.
Porch finished with one goal, one assist, and a team-high seven shots, while Kondilis tallied two goals on five shot attempts. Brisbon recorded four saves to earn the clean sheet, and Mora-Lovera kept the Concordia defense busy with four shots, including three on target.
