Red Devils Held to Scoreless Draw Against Grace Christian

EUREKA, Ill. – Despite dominating possession and managing 19 shots, the Eureka men's soccer team was held to a scoreless draw against Grace Christian on Thursday afternoon at McKinzie Field. The Red Devils created chances throughout the match but couldn't find the a goal, settling for a 0-0 result.

Eureka came out aggressive from the opening whistle, with Jesus Canas (Miami, Fla./John A. Ferguson) testing Grace keeper Logan Werschem in the 4^th minute. Jovani Zuniga (Chicago, Ill./Brother Rice) and Joyce Kabesa (Bloomington, Ill./Bloomington) followed with early efforts, but could not find the back of the net.

The Red Devils continued to press, with Gabriel Gonzalez (Oak Forest, Ill./Homeschooled), Walter Medrano (Houston, Texas/Heights), and Diego Bueno (Round Lake, Ill./Grant Community) each forcing saves from Werschem, who stood tall in goal all afternoon.

In the second half, Eureka continued pressing numbers forward. Kabesa and Michael DeCarlo (Bourbonnais, Ill./Bradley-Bourbonnais) each had shots saved early in the period, and Raphael Mungu (Bloomington, Ill./Normal Community) nearly broke the deadlock in the 62^nd minute with an effort that was again denied.

Grace Christian's Bryan Hernandez was shown a yellow card in the 71^st minute and sent off with a red in the 90^th for time-wasting with only 13 seconds remaining. However, the brief man advantage wasn't enough for Eureka, who earned two corners and forced four more saves in the second half, but couldn't find the breakthrough.

Sebastian Torres (Fort Worth, Texas/Castleberry) earned the shutout in goal for Eureka, making two saves behind a defense that allowed just seven shots. Medrano and James Williams (Suwanee, Ga./North Gwinnett) led the backline, each playing the full 90 minutes.
