Eureka Drops Midweek Match to IWU

EUREKA, Ill. – The Eureka men's soccer team battled but came up short against Illinois Wesleyan on Wednesday night, falling 3-0 at McKinzie Field.

After a back-and-forth start, the Titans (5-1-2) struck first in the 36th minute when Gavin Young found the back of the net to give the visitors the lead. IWU extended its advantage in the 43rd minute when Logan Tierney added a goal, sending the Titans into halftime with a 2-0 advantage.

Eureka came out of the break pressing to get back into the match, but Illinois Wesleyan put the result out of reach late. In the 84th minute, Faheem Mujahid made it 3-0, finishing off a feed from Ryder Coleman to cap the scoring.

Despite the final score, Eureka (4-5-1) had stretches of strong play and created chances. The Red Devils produced 13 shots on the night, including eight in the second half as they pushed to find a way back. Tyler Kramer (Beecher, Ill./Beecher) tested the goalkeeper twice with shots on frame, while Oscar Villagrana (Bakersfield, Calif./Ridgeview) also forced a save.

Between the posts, senior goalkeeper Xavier Brisbon (Oswego, Ill./Oswego East) kept the Red Devils within striking distance with six saves in the opening 39 minutes before being forced off with an injury. Freshman goalkeeper Charles Wyzukovicz (Elgin, Ill./Central) entered in relief and added three saves of his own.
