EUREKA, Ill. – The Eureka men's soccer team opened SLIAC play with a scoreless draw against Westminster on Sunday afternoon at McKinzie Field.
In a tightly contested match that marked the conference opener for both sides, the Red Devils (4-5-2, 0-0-1 SLIAC) and Blue Jays (4-3-1, 0-0-1 SLIAC) each had their moments, but neither team could find the breakthrough.
Eureka goalkeeper Sebastian Torres (Fort Worth, Texas/Castleberry) made five saves to earn his second clean sheet of the season. The Red Devils' back line held firm under pressure, especially in the second half when Westminster tallied 10 of their 16 total shots.
On the attacking end, Eureka generated nine shots, with four on goal. Landon Porch (Metamora, Ill./Metamora) led the attack with two shots on target, while Joyce Kabesa (Bloomington, Ill./Bloomington) and Pascal Calonges (Evanston, Ill./Evanston Township) also tested the Westminster keeper with shots on target.
