ELSAH, Ill. – The Eureka men's soccer team couldn't bounce back after a slow start on Saturday afternoon, falling 5-0 at Principia in SLIAC play.
The Panthers (4-4-1, 2-0 SLIAC) came out firing, scoring four times in the first half. Jonathan Keller opened the scoring in the first minute and added another in the 22nd. Diego Alas and Alejandro Liborio each found the net in the 37h and 39th minutes, respectively, giving the hosts a commanding 4-0 lead at the break.
Alas struck again in the 74th minute to cap the scoring for Principia. Eureka (4-7-2, 0-2-1 SLIAC) was unable to respond, despite generating seven shots and earning five corners.
Sebastian Torres (Fort Worth, Texas/Castleberry) started in goal for the Red Devils, making four saves in the first half before Charles Wyzukovicz (Elgin, Ill./Central) took over after halftime.
Offensively, Eureka was led by Tyler Kramer (Beecher, Ill./Beecher), who recorded two shots, including one on target. Pascal Calonges (Evanston, Ill./Evanston Township) and Uli Castaneda (Bloomington, Ill./Normal West) also placed shots on target.
