Gonzalez Nets Two in Draw at Lawrence

APPLETON, Wis. – The Eureka men's soccer team wrapped up its nonconference slate with a 2-2 draw on the road against Lawrence on Tuesday evening.

The Red Devils (6-9-3, 2-4-1 SLIAC) struck first in the 36th minute when Gabriel Gonzalez (Oak Forest, Ill./Homeschooled) stole the ball from a Lawrence defender and curled a shot from outside the box into the top corner.

After Lawrence equalized early in the second half, Eureka regained the lead in the 79th minute. Michael Kondilis (Chicago, Ill./Maine South) found Gonzalez just outside the box, where the freshman midfielder laced a volley into the top corner for his second goal of the night.

In the final 10 minutes, Lawrence pushed hard for an equalizer and finally broke through in the 87th minute, leveling the match despite four second half saves from freshman goalkeeper Charles Wyzukovicz (Elgin, Ill./Central).

Eureka generated six total shots and three shots on goal, while Lawrence (0-9-5) recorded six shots on target across 13 total attempts. Gonzalez recorded both goals for the Red Devils, giving him four on the season.
