Eureka Wins SIUE Cougar Classic to Open Season

EDWARDSVILLE, Ill. – The Eureka men's volleyball team opened its season in dominant fashion, capturing the SIUE Cougar Classic title with a 5-0 record while sweeping all but one match.

Eureka rolled through group play with straight-set wins over WashU A, SIU Edwardsville B, and Missouri State B. The Red Devils earned the No. 1 overall seed and a bye into the semifinals, where they once again rallied past fifth-seeded WashU A 2-1 (15-25, 25-18, 15-10) after dropping the opening set.

In the championship match, Eureka capped the day with a 2-0 (25-21, 25-19) victory over second-seeded SIU Edwardsville A to secure the tournament title.

"I was really excited to start the season off 5-0," head coach Noah Ray said. "The guys performed at a really high level during a really long day. Saturday displayed how hard the guys have worked this fall and I am excited to see us continue to compete at a high level."

Eureka hosts Franklin, Rockford and Saint Mary-of-the-Woods on Saturday for the Red Devil Invite. The Red Devils open against Saint Mary-of-the-Woods at 11:15 a.m., followed by Franklin at 1:45 p.m. and Rockford at 4:15 p.m.
