No. 20 Eureka Goes 5-1 at Midwest D2 Invitational

AURORA, Ill. — The No. 20 Eureka men's volleyball team cruised through group play and the power pool round before bowing out in the bracket stage of the Midwest D2 Invitational on Saturday and Sunday.

The Red Devils opened Group F play Saturday with a straight-set victory over Carroll, 25-21, 25-21. Eureka kept its momentum rolling with another sweep, defeating Michigan Tech 25-18, 25-17.

In the final round of Group F pool play, Eureka faced No. 9 North Dakota State in a tightly contested three-set match. After taking the first set 25-18, the Red Devils dropped the second 23-25 before regrouping to claim the decisive third set 15-13. The loss of the second set snapped Eureka's streak of 11 consecutive matches without dropping a set.

As the Group F winner, Eureka advanced to Power Pool F and matched up with Lipscomb, the second-place team from Group G. The Red Devils controlled the match from start to finish, earning a 25-13, 25-20 sweep.

Eureka returned Sunday morning to face SIU Edwardsville, the third-place team from Group D, and completed another straight-set victory, 25-19, 25-22. The win marked Eureka's third victory over SIUE this season and extended its winning streak to 20 matches.

After claiming the Power Pool F title, the Red Devils moved into the bracket round, where they were paired with No. 4 Davenport, the second-place team from Power Pool C. Davenport ended Eureka's tournament run with a straight-set win, 25-19, 25-15.

Eureka will now have two weeks off before returning to action on the road against Westminster on Sunday, March 8, at 6 p.m.
