EC Women’s Basketball Leaves Iowa Wesleyan Behind, 89-61

MOUNT PLEASANT, Iowa – The Eureka women's basketball team rained 3s and pushed the pace at Iowa Wesleyan on Saturday.

The result was Red Devils' best shooting day of the season and an 89-61 win over the Tigers.

Eureka is now 2-0 in St. Louis Intercollegiate Athletic Conference play for the second straight season and 3-2 overall.

Alaina Vance (Camp Point, Ill./Central) was the Red Devils' leading scorer with a season-high 21 points on 7-of-11 shooting from the field and 5-of-8 shooting from distance. She also hit both of her free-throw attempts, dished a team-high five assists and had two steals and two rebounds.

Abby Stotler (Wyoming, Ill./Stark County) posted 20 points while shooting 8-of-17 and knocking a trio of 3-pointers. Olivia Falls (Bloomington, Ill./Bloomington) pulled down a season-high 15 rebounds to go with eight points.

Marissa Murphy (Canton, Ill./Canton) also added eight points, along with six rebounds and three assists. Fellow guard Whitney Bozarth (Normal, Ill./Normal West) contributed five points, five rebounds and two steals.

Off the bench, Shakaya Rogers (Hanover, Mich./Concord), Kennedy Jackson (Peoria, Ill./Limestone) and Savanah Moore (Clinton, Ill./Clinton) chipped in with nine, eight and seven, respectively. Freshman Kyla Simmons (Mackinaw, Ill./Deer Creek-Mackinaw) recorded her first points in her collegiate career, converting an and-one in the fourth quarter.

As a team, the Red Devils shot 53.6 percent from the field and 45.8 percent from beyond the arc. They drained a season-high 11 triples, held their opponent to a season-low 61 and cut their turnovers down from 20 on Wednesday to 13.

The team shot 60 percent or higher in three of the four quarters, outscored the Tigers in the paint 52-32 and led by as many as 37 points with eight minutes to go in the game. Eureka also dominated the glass, outrebounding IWU 46-33.

The Red Devils (3-2, 2-0 SLIAC) will gun for their third league win on Tuesday when they host Spalding (0-2, 0-2).
