Webb’s Career Night Leads Eureka to 87-74 Win Over Lyon

EUREKA, Ill. – The Eureka women's basketball team secured a decisive 87-74 victory over Lyon at home on Thursday, fueled by Miya Webb's career-high 36 points. With the win, the Red Devils completed a season sweep of the Scots and evened the all-time series at 2-2.

Lyon started strong in the first quarter, with Molly Mason knocking down a three-pointer just 30 seconds into the game, followed by a layup from Natalya Kaza to give the Scots an early edge. However, the Red Devils quickly responded. Miya Webb (Indianapolis, Ind./Brownsburg) scored a layup and sank two free throws, while Maxine Najera (Riverside, Calif./Hillcrest) and Sierra Garcia-Reisch (Las Animas, Colo./La Junta) capitalized on Lyon's turnovers to turn the tide. Najera's free throws in the closing seconds gave Eureka a 23-22 lead at the end of the quarter.

Lyon regained momentum in the second quarter as Eureka struggled with turnovers, committing five in the period. The Scots took advantage with key buckets from Dalye Hambelton and Kaza, extending their lead. Despite Eureka's defensive efforts, including multiple blocks from Josie Ness (Sandwich, Ill./Sandwich), Lyon held control for most of the quarter. However, Webb hit back-to-back three-pointers in the final minutes to cut into the deficit, and the Scots entered halftime with a narrow 40-38 advantage.

The Red Devils took over in the third quarter, outscoring Lyon 34-19. Eureka opened the half with a commanding 10-0 run, led by Webb, who hit a layup and drained a three-pointer moments later. Garcia-Reisch contributed with key assists and a fast-break layup, fueling the Red Devils' surge. Lyon fought to keep pace, with Mason and Jewel Walley connecting on field goals, but Eureka's relentless defensive pressure and transition offense extended their lead to 72-59 heading into the final quarter.

Both teams matched each other with 15 points in the fourth quarter, but Eureka maintained control. Elena Redgate (Metamora, Ill./Metamora) opened the scoring with two baskets off assists from Garcia-Reisch and Webb. Webb continued to lead the offense, nailing a three-pointer and adding a late layup to keep Lyon at bay. The Scots attempted a late push, with Kaza hitting a three-pointer, but the Red Devils' steady defense and timely scoring secured the victory.
