EUREKA, Ill. – The Eureka women's basketball team fell 83-33 to No. 3 UW-Oshkosh on Friday night in its season opener at Christine Bonati Bollwinkle Arena.
UW-Oshkosh opened the game on a 10-0 run before Sierra Garcia-Reisch (Las Animas, Colo./La Junta) connected from deep to get Eureka on the board. Railynn Brown (Erlanger, Ky./Lloyd Memorial) later knocked down a 3-pointer to trim the deficit to 14-8, and a layup by Miracle Armstrong (Chicago, Ill./Wendell Phillips) brought the margin to 16-10. The Titans, however, closed the quarter with four straight points to take a 20-10 lead after one.
The second quarter followed a similar pattern. Oshkosh started the frame on an 11-2 run to stretch its advantage to 31-12, but Eureka responded with back-to-back threes from Garcia-Reisch and Allysa Taylor (Tehachapi, Calif./Tehachapi) to pull within 33-21. The Titans again seized momentum late in the period, scoring the final seven points of the half to take a 40-21 lead into the break.
UW-Oshkosh took full command in the third quarter, outscoring Eureka 28-6. The Titans carried a 68-27 lead into the fourth and closed out the night by outscoring Eureka 15-6 in the fourth quarter.
Taylor led the Red Devils with nine points, four steals, and three assists, while Garcia-Reisch added seven points and a team-high seven rebounds. Armstrong scored eight points, and Brown finished with three points and two assists.
