EUREKA, Ill. – The Eureka women's basketball team closed its opening weekend with an 88-50 loss to UW-Stevens Point on Saturday afternoon.
UW-Stevens Point set the tone early, racing out to a 24-4 lead and taking a 31-7 advantage after the opening quarter. Eureka opened the second quarter with back-to-back 3-pointers from Allysa Taylor (Tehachapi, Calif./Tehachapi) and Miracle Armstrong (Chicago, Ill./Wendell Phillips) to cut the deficit to 33-13, but the Pointers answered with a 10-0 run and carried a 52-26 lead into halftime.
The Red Devils continued to battle through the third, highlighted by four consecutive points from Sierra Garcia-Reisch (Las Animas, Colo./La Junta), but UWSP extended its advantage to 67-37 after three quarters. Stevens Point closed the game with a strong fourth quarter to secure the 88-50 win.
Garcia-Reisch paced Eureka with a team-high 19 points, knocking down three 3-pointers while adding three assists and six steals. Taylor finished with 11 points and six rebounds, Armstrong added six points and three assists, and Courtney Hart (Lancaster, Calif./Yosemite) posted nine points and 13 rebounds.
