Red Devils Fall to Wilmington to Close Hanover Tournament
HANOVER, Ind. – The Eureka women's basketball team wrapped up play at the Hanover Tournament on Saturday afternoon, falling 75-46 to Wilmington in the consolation game.
Miracle Armstrong (Chicago, Ill./Wendell Phillips) got the Red Devils on the board first with a jumper to make it 2-0. After Wilmington briefly took the lead, Railynn Brown (Erlanger, Ky./Lloyd Memorial) connected from deep to put Eureka back in front 5-4. A layup by Sierra Garcia-Reisch (Las Animas, Colo./La Junta) extended the advantage to 7-4 and gave Eureka its largest lead of the day. Wilmington used a 7-0 run to move in front 11-7, but Armstrong's layup trimmed the deficit to 11-9 at the end of the first quarter.
Brooklyn Bowman (Washington, Ill./Washington) tied the game at 11 early in the second, but the Quakers seized momentum from there, outscoring Eureka 22-6 the rest of the period to take a 33-17 lead into halftime.
Wilmington continued to build on its advantage in the third quarter, outscoring Eureka 22-10 to push the margin to 55-27 entering the fourth. The Red Devils fought to the finish, scoring 19 points in the final period and knocking down five 3-pointers, but the Quakers maintained control to close out the 75-46 result.
Armstrong led Eureka with a team-high 14 points, adding three rebounds and five steals. Garcia-Reisch was also in double figures, finishing with 11 points and seven boards. Bowman contributed six points and six rebounds, while Brown added nine points with three made 3-pointers.
