Eureka Falls to Greenville in Season Finale

GREENVILLE, Ill. — The Eureka women's basketball team closed out its season Saturday afternoon with an 81-48 loss at Greenville.

The Red Devils fell behind early and were unable to recover as Greenville used a pair of first half runs to build a commanding lead.

Greenville opened the game on an 11-2 run before Railynn Brown (Erlanger, Ky./Lloyd Memorial) knocked down a 3-pointer to cut the deficit to 11-5. Courtney Hart (Lancaster, Calif./Yosemite) followed with a layup to make it 13-7, but the Panthers responded with an 11-0 surge to extend their advantage to 24-7. Greenville carried a 26-8 lead into the second quarter.

Eureka trimmed the deficit to 16 points multiple times in the second quarter, but Greenville answered with a 9-0 run to push the lead to 41-16. Hart connected from beyond the arc to slow the momentum, and Kayla Collins (Fort Worth, Texas/Fort Worth Christian) and Miracle Armstrong (Chicago, Ill./Wendell Phillips) added back-to-back baskets to bring Eureka within 20 at 43-23. Greenville closed the half strong and took a 48-23 advantage into the break.

The Panthers continued to pull away in the third quarter, outscoring Eureka 22-10 to build a 70-33 lead heading into the final period.

Greenville opened the fourth quarter with its largest lead of the night at 77-35, but Eureka responded with an 11-2 run to close the game, sparked by a jumper from Abigail Martinez (Los Alamos, N.M./Los Alamos). Collins scored six points during the stretch as the Red Devils showed late fight before falling 81-48.

Hart led Eureka with 17 points and 12 rebounds, recording her 10th double double of the season. Collins added 11 points and four steals, while Martinez finished with eight points and three rebounds.
