Gaige Owens Named SLIAC Men’s Wrestler of the Week

EUREKA, Ill. – Eureka's Gaige Owens (Marion, Ill./Marion) has been named the St. Louis Intercollegiate Athletic Conference Men's Wrestler of the Week.

At the North Central College Invitational this weekend, he finished with a 4-2 record and earned an 8th-place finish in the 141-pound weight class. Owens began his day with a 15-5 victory by major decision. He was then defeated by major decision, sending him to the consolation bracket. In the consolation bracket, he dominated his opponents, earning a 17-0 win by technical fall, a 17-3 win by major decision, and a 17-7 win by major decision. This run sent him to the consolation championship, where he lost by decision, resulting in an 8th-place finish.

Owens and the Red Devils will return to action on Wednesday, Dec. 18, when they travel to face Aurora. The dual is scheduled to begin at 5:00 p.m.
