Maubach Claims Title as Eureka Takes Fourth at SLIAC Championships
EUREKA, Ill. – The Eureka men's wrestling team competed on its home mats Saturday, highlighted by an individual conference title from Sargent Maubach, as the Red Devils finished fourth at the SLIAC Men's Wrestling Championships.
The Ozarks captured the team championship, with Huntingdon finishing second and Schreiner taking third. The host Red Devils placed fourth overall, finishing ahead of Westminster, Blackburn, Lyon, and McMurry.
Eureka crowned one individual conference champion and had three additional wrestlers earn podium spots.
Freshman Sargent Maubach (174) highlighted the day by capturing the individual conference title. Maubach advanced through the bracket with a medical forfeit win in the quarterfinals over Tyler Gardner of McMurry, a 4-3 decision over Jemarion Moore of the Ozarks in the semifinals, and a 4-0 decision against Thomas Seglio of Huntingdon in the championship match. He finished as Eureka's lone individual champion.
Trevor Hedges (141) earned a second-place finish after receiving a bye into the semifinals and posting a tech fall in 1:58 over Luke Adams of the Ozarks. In the finals, Hedges suffered a knee injury early in the bout but courageously chose to continue wrestling, attempting to battle through the setback before ultimately falling by injury default to Ashton Keller of Schreiner. The junior still secured his second career top-three finish at the SLIAC Championships after winning the 125-pound title as a freshman and missing last year's championships due to injury.
Alex Muhammad (157) also placed second, marking his second consecutive top-three finish at the conference meet after taking third in 2025. Muhammad opened with a 13-6 decision over Landon Rofkahr of the Ozarks and followed with a win by fall in 0:51 against Casen Guidry of Huntingdon in the semifinals before being defeated by fall in 5:08 by Damion Jones of Huntingdon in the finals.
At 149 pounds, senior Billy Tucker earned a third-place finish in his first season as a Red Devil. Tucker pinned teammate Tanner Finin in 1:58 in the opening round, fell in the semifinals, then rebounded with a win by fall in 0:54 over Clay Queen Jr. of Lyon before winning by forfeit in the third-place match.
Finin (149) battled back through the consolation bracket to place fourth. After falling in the opening round, he secured consecutive wins by fall over Ethan Norton (1:15) and Benjamin Beaty (0:57), both of the Ozarks, before finishing fourth.
Caleb Ohnesorge (165) finished fourth after opening with an 8-7 decision over Tyler Tarallo of Blackburn. He added a win by fall in 2:44 in the consolation bracket before dropping the third-place match to Brady Nardella of Huntingdon.
Tyren Moore (184) placed fifth, opening with a win by fall in 6:40 over Keaton Wilhelm of Blackburn and later earning a 9-6 win by way of sudden victory over Wilhelm in the fifth-place match.
Jaydon Fisher (174) secured seventh place, highlighted by a win by fall (1:15) over Jamie Vazquez of Lyon and a win by forfeit in the seventh-place match.
At 133 pounds, Brandon Garner earned a sixth-place finish. Jeremiah Robertson (165) and Josiah Morones (184) each placed eighth in their respective weight classes, while Patrick Fields (197) secured seventh place.
Head coach Eric Biehl praised his team's effort following the meet.
"The guys competed very hard today," Biehl said. "I am very proud of their improvement and how they battled throughout the day."
