BERRIEN SPRINGS, Mich. – The Eureka women's soccer team earned its first win of the season in dominant fashion on Wednesday evening, posting a 4-0 victory over Andrews on the road.
The Red Devils (1-2-0) took control early and never looked back. Freshman Krisean Buchana (St. Louis, Mo./Ritenour) opened the scoring in the 9th minute with her first career goal, assisted by sophomore Brianna Murphy (Grand Blanc, Mich./Powers Catholic). Eureka struck again just before halftime, doubling the lead in the 40th minute when freshman Brianna Harris (O'Fallon, Mo./Fort Zumwalt West) scored her first career goal, also set up by Murphy, who notched her second assist of the match.
The Red Devils' momentum continued in the second half. Sophomore Addison Byers (Flushing, Mich./Flushing) tallied her second goal in as many games in the 51st minute, extending Eureka's lead to 3-0. Murphy then capped off her strong showing with a goal of her own in the 67th minute, assisted by Byers.
Sophomore goalkeeper Hannah Jachimiak (Arvada, Colo./Ralston Valley) played the first 73 minutes, making two saves to keep the Cardinals off the board. Freshman Chloe Pluger (Coal City, Ill./Coal City) came in for the final 17 minutes to help preserve the clean sheet.
Eureka outshot Andrews 18-4 in the match. Leading the Red Devils in shot attempts were Hope Binder (Bartonville, Ill./Limestone), Brianna Murphy, Logan Webster (Charleston, Ill./Charleston), and Daphne Collette (Murray, Utah/Murray), who each recorded three shots.
