Eureka Ties MUW, Awaits Postseason Fate

COLUMBUS, Miss. – The Eureka women's soccer team closed its regular season on Sunday with a 0-0 draw against MUW. Eureka will now wait for Wednesday's match between MUW and Lyon to determine its postseason fate.

In a match that saw both sides generate few chances, neither team could find the back of the net through 90 minutes. Eureka applied early pressure, outshooting the Owls 6-3 in the opening half and creating multiple chances on goal, but MUW goalkeeper Cam Lopez stood tall with three first half saves to keep the match scoreless.

The second half saw a momentum shift as MUW generated four shots and earned four corner kicks, but the Red Devils defense remained organized. Junior goalkeeper Naitzy Garcia (Mendota, Ill./Mendota) made two key saves in the final 20 minutes to preserve her second shutout of the season.

Eureka finished the match tied 7-7 in total shots and held a 4-2 advantage in shots on target. Krisean Buchana (St. Louis, Mo./Ritenour), Daphne Collette (Murray, Utah/Murray), Logan Webster (Charleston, Ill./Charleston), and Morgan Oginsky (Flushing, Mich./Flushing) each recorded a shot on goal for the Red Devils.

With the result, Eureka (4-9-2, 1-5-2 SLIAC) will now wait to learn its postseason fate. The Red Devils can clinch the final spot in the SLIAC Tournament if MUW defeats or ties Lyon on Wednesday at 3:30 p.m. in Batesville, Ark.
