Red Devils Compete at Greenville Select Ahead of SLIAC Championships
GREENVILLE, Ill. – The Eureka cross country and distance team turned in a solid performance Saturday at the Greenville Select, using the meet as a final tune-up ahead of the conference championships.
On the women's side, Zoe Stoecker (Metamora, Ill./Metamora) battled through leg tightness to complete the 1500 meters in 7:44.73, showing resilience in her final race before the postseason.
The men's squad delivered several strong efforts across multiple events. Jose Amador (Kempton, Ill./Tri-Point) opened the day in the 400 meters with a time of 56.65, marking the second-fastest performance of his collegiate career and providing a significant confidence boost. Amador later returned to post a clean 3000-meter steeplechase in 12:08.36 after overcoming an ankle injury in the event from earlier this season.
In the middle-distance events, Bailey Webster (East Peoria, Ill./East Peoria) led the way in the 800 meters with a personal-record time of 2:01.63, trimming nearly two seconds off his previous best while narrowly missing the two-minute barrier. Cole Glover (Hopkinsville, Ky./University Heights) followed in 2:06.54, while Evan Gillespie (Jacksonville, Ill./Jacksonville) recorded a time of 2:56.32.
Glover also competed in the 1500 meters, clocking 4:14.68 to stay sharp ahead of the conference meet, finishing just over two seconds off his personal best and conference-leading mark. Gillespie added a personal record in the event, crossing in 5:52.35 to improve his previous best.
"Coach Kimbro and I were happy with how the team competed in their events," head coach Chris Robinson said. "We were able to stay sharp and build confidence here at the end of the season. We are looking forward to a couple strong weeks of training before returning to Greenville for our conference championship April 24 and 25."
