Eureka Women Finish Sixth at Carthage Classic
KENOSHA, Wis. – The Eureka women's wrestling team competed at the Carthage Classic on Sunday, turning in a strong performance against a 17-team field and finishing sixth overall with 35.5 points.
Madison Farris led the way for the Red Devils with an impressive second-place finish at 160 pounds. After opening the tournament with a narrow 4-3 decision loss, Farris responded with three straight victories, including wins by decision (8-6) and back-to-back pins in 2:30 and 3:57. Her run to the finals concluded with a second-place finish, with both of her losses on the day coming against eventual champion Elizabeth Rosenstiel of North Central.
Krisean Buchana also turned in a place finish for Eureka, placing seventh at 131 pounds. Buchana opened the day with a pin in 1:27 and closed strong with a tech fall victory in 2:22, battling through a tough bracket that included multiple fall losses in the middle rounds.
At 180 pounds, Jaylah Campbell picked up a pin in 5:31 after an opening bye, gaining a valuable win despite facing a tough draw that included two first period falls.
Vivian Guither competed at 145 pounds, opening her day with a bye before earning a pin in 1:56. She faced a challenging bracket that resulted in a loss by tech fall and a loss by default to round out her day.
Head coach Eric Biehl viewed the weekend's competitions as valuable experience for his young teams.
"These tournaments were good tests to see where we need to improve," Biehl said. "We saw some success and we got humbled in places that we will fix! I am excited to see where we are after we clean up little items."

The Red Devils will be back in action on Sunday, Dec. 14, when they compete at the North Central Open in Naperville, Ill. The tournament is set to begin at 9 a.m.
