Red Devils Struggle in Loss to St. Norbert

DE PERE, Wis. – The Eureka football team was unable to get going on the road Saturday afternoon, falling 44-0 to St. Norbert.

St. Norbert (3-3, 3-1 NACC) capitalized on early momentum and explosive defensive plays to take control of the game. The Green Knights opened the scoring with a 5-yard touchdown pass from Michael Meneguzzo to Bailey Turenne on the opening possession. They then broke the game open in the second quarter with two pick-sixes and added a rushing score by Will Darden to take a 27-0 lead into halftime.

The hosts continued to roll in the second half, adding a 41-yard field goal and two more touchdowns to extend their lead to 44-0.

Eureka (2-5, 1-4 NACC) struggled to gain traction offensively, finishing with 173 total yards with 114 on the ground and 59 through the air. Freshman quarterback Christian Noel (Prairieville, La./Ascension) made his second career start and recorded 22 rushing yards and 22 passing yards, while Ethan Velazquez (Chicago, Ill./Prosser) added 23 passing yards. Brandon Garner (Jonesboro, Ark./Jonesboro) paced the rushing attack with 37 yards on seven carries, and Keyshawn Cone (Miami, Fla./Carol City) contributed 20 rushing yards and 21 receiving yards.

On defense, Chuck Weathersby (Kankakee, Ill./Kankakee) led the Red Devils with seven tackles and an interception. Brian Burns (Philadelphia, Pa./Stroudsburg) tallied eight stops, while Will Watkins (Flint, Mich./Davison) and Beverlentz Bernard (Orlando, Fla./Evans) each added six tackles. Rickson Soivilien (North Miami Beach, Fla./North Miami Beach) also recorded an interception, returning it 22 yards.

Eureka will return home to face Wisconsin Lutheran on Saturday, Oct. 25, with kickoff set for 5 p.m.
