EUREKA, Ill. – Eureka returns to Pete FioRito Stadium on Saturday for its Senior Day matchup, hosting Lakeland in a NACC contest at 1 p.m. The Red Devils come off their bye week looking to regroup and close the home schedule on a strong note, while the visiting Muskies arrive seeking back-to-back wins for the first time this season.
RED DEVIL SPOTLIGHT: Eureka (2-6, 1-5 NACC) returns from its bye week seeking to build on the positive stretches shown in its 42-12 loss to Wisconsin Lutheran on Oct. 25. After falling behind 28-0, the Red Devils swung momentum late in the first half when Christopher Walker intercepted a pass and returned it 54 yards for a touchdown.
Eureka carried that spark into the third quarter, opening with a 75-yard touchdown drive capped by a 4-yard run from Aaron Locus. Moments later, Jovon Gibson added his second interception of the year, setting up another scoring chance before the Red Devils were stopped at the 1-yard line.
Ronnie Sanders led the offense with 66 rushing yards and ranks 10th in the NACC with 330 yards this season. DeVayne Isom paced the passing game with four catches for 27 yards. Defensively, Quvione Mitchell posted ten tackles, and Chuck Weathersby contributed six tackles, a sack, and a blocked punt. Derrick Payton Jr. added a sack and four hurries as Eureka's defense collected multiple takeaways for the second straight game.
MUSKIE MINUTE: Lakeland (2-6, 2-4 NACC) arrives in Eureka after one of its most complete performances of the season, rolling to a 47-16 win over Concordia Chicago last Saturday. The Muskies seized control early, building a 34-0 lead behind a blend of explosive plays and defensive domination.
Quarterback Robby Michael reached a historic milestone in the win, becoming Lakeland's all-time leader in total offense by surpassing 11,000 career yards. Michael finished with 171 passing yards and 53 rushing yards, pushing his season totals to NACC-leading marks across multiple categories.
Zelmarious Banks stole the spotlight with three interceptions, two of which he returned for touchdowns. His 65-yard first quarter score extended Lakeland's early advantage, and his 100-yard return in the third quarter widened the gap to 47-7 in one of the longest defensive plays in program history.
The Muskies' defense consistently controlled the line of scrimmage, holding Concordia Chicago to 217 total yards, collecting five sacks, and limiting the Cougars to 2.3 yards per rush. The offense complemented that effort with timely production, including 103 rushing yards from Jontae Lambert and 85 receiving yards from Lambert on a 66-yard catch-and-run touchdown to open the game.
Lakeland enters the weekend averaging 485.3 yards per game, with 309.7 coming through quarterback Michael. The Muskies also feature one of the conference's most productive receiving corps, including Deshawn Hampton, Caden Kleparski, and Jeremy Kobe. All three receivers rank in the NACC's top 10 in receiving yardage.
