LAST TIME OUT:
Eureka is coming off an 84-66 road loss at Webster on Wednesday night in a game defined by early turnovers and second-chance points. The Gorloks set the tone with defensive pressure and activity on the glass, building a 36-24 halftime lead. Eureka found stretches of offensive rhythm behind outside shooting from Micah Bruer and interior scoring from Jacob Gonzalez, while Damuzha Moore and Dylan Logsdon provided energy in transition. After a difficult start to the second half, the Red Devils showed fight with fast-break buckets from Logsdon and a transition three from Joel Ewald, but Webster consistently answered each push. Bruer led Eureka with 10 points, Moore and Santino Ruma each added seven, and Logsdon filled the stat sheet with five points, seven rebounds, and five assists.
RED DEVIL REPORT:
Eureka enters Saturday looking to clean up execution and limit extra possessions. Turnovers and rebounding were key factors in Wednesday's loss, and both areas will be emphasized against a Spalding team that thrives on efficiency. The Red Devils are also monitoring the availability of leading scorer Jaxson Provost, who missed the Webster game. In his last appearance, Provost scored 31 points in an overtime loss to Lyon, and his presence would provide a significant boost offensively. In his absence, Bruer stepped into a larger role and paced the team in scoring.
GOLDEN EAGLE OUTLOOK:
Spalding comes in at 8-7 overall and 3-4 in SLIAC play, currently sitting fifth in the conference. The Golden Eagles are riding momentum after consecutive league wins over Westminster and Blackburn, including a gritty 60-54 victory on Wednesday. Spalding is one of the most efficient offensive teams in the nation, ranking 21st nationally in field goal percentage at 48.8 percent. Lekendrick Morris anchors the attack, averaging 15.1 points per game while ranking second nationally in field goal percentage at an eye-catching 71.1 percent. Dawsyn Miller also scores in double figures, while Devonte McCampbell provides another scoring option and, along with Morris, controls the glass. Spalding is also one of the top rebounding teams in Division III, averaging 43.5 rebounds per game.
LOOKING AHEAD:
Following Saturday's contest, Eureka will continue its road stretch with a trip to Principia on Tuesday for a 7:30 p.m. tip-off. The Panthers currently sit at the bottom of the SLIAC standings, making it another important conference opportunity as the Red Devils look to turn close efforts into results.
